David Beadle is from East Yorkshire, England, but has spent much of his adult life in Norway. Following a varied working life, ranging from a waiter to a welder, the last 30 years he has been a librarian on the west coast of Norway.
He has found time to study geography, history, French, library science and international relations at universities in England and Norway.
David knows Hungary well. He has studied the Hungarian Revolution in 1956 and is familiar with every street corner in Budapest on which the most important events in this novel took place.
